The SNHU women's track and field team competed for the first time in 2026 with a strong showing at the USM Open II, producing event wins and multiple podium finishes.
Junior Jordan Wheaton (Hooksett, N.H.) led the way on the track with a standout hurdles performance, winning the 55-meter hurdles in 8.39 after advancing through the prelims as the top qualifier with a new program record 8.33 seconds. Wheaton also reached the finals of the 55-meter dash, finishing sixth overall with a personal best of 7.70 seconds.
Sophomore Erika Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) captured the mile title, crossing the line first in 5:15.79 in a tightly contested race. The time marked a personal best.
In the longer distances, junior Deirdre Bailat (No. Billerica, Mass.) added a runner-up finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:04.59, while junior Kora Hay (Conventry, R.I.) also competed in the event, running 11th.
In the sprints, sophomore Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) placed fourth in the 55-meter dash final with a time of 7.62 after advancing through the prelims. Sophomore Hope Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.) added a third-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 1:04.64.
SNHU field athletes made a strong impact in the horizontal jumps. Freshman Jordyn Wall-Carty (Woodridge, N.Y.) placed second in the long jump with a new personal best of 5.37 meters, while freshman Lily Bower (Billerica, Mass.) followed closely in third at 5.19 meters. Wall-Carty also added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, while freshman Ciara Pina (Taunton, Mass.) placed fourth in the event and tied for fourth in the high jump.
Additional top efforts came from freshman Lindy Moreland (Gorham, Maine), who placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles final and competed in the long jump. In the throws, senior Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) finished fifth in the shot put with a top throw of 11.19 meters, while freshman Autumn Haggett (Hudson, N.H.) also represented the Penmen in the event.
The Penmen capped the meet with two entries in the 1600 sprint medley relay. The SNHU "A" squad placed fourth overall, while the "B" team followed in fifth.
