Sinclair, Sippel Lead SNHU at Suffolk Ice Breaker

Podium finishes highlight SNHU’s performance at The TRACK at New Balance

The SNHU women's track and field team continued its indoor season on Sunday at the Suffolk Ice Breaker, highlighted by podium finishes in the sprints and strong performances across the track and field events.

Senior Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) led the way in the sprints, placing second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.78 after qualifying for the final with the fastest preliminary time of 7.77, just .01 off her program record of 7.76 seconds.  Sinclair also competed in the 200 meters, finishing 11th overall in the invitational section with a time of 26.40.

In the 400 meters, sophomore Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) turned in a strong runner-up performance in the invitational section, clocking 59.94. Junior Kay Wheelock (Milford, Mass.) also delivered a standout effort in the open section of the event, winning her heat and finishing first overall with a time of 1:03.10.

Middle-distance runners continued to show consistency for the Penmen. Sophomore Erika Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:03.13, while junior Deirdre Bailat (Billerica, Mass.) followed closely behind in 10th at 3:16.93. Junior Kora Hay (Coventry, R.I.) also competed in the event, finishing 17th.

In the distance events, graduate student Corrina Obernesser (Westminster, Colo.) recorded a 10th-place finish in the mile, crossing the line in 5:23.66. Junior Natalie Sicard (Nottingham, N.H.) also represented SNHU in the event.

SNHU jumpers produced solid results in the field events. Freshman Lily Bower (Billerica, Mass.) led the way in the long jump, placing sixth with a best mark of 5.07 meters. Freshman Erin Kelley (Braintree, Mass.) also competed in the event. In the high jump, freshman Lindy Moreland (Gorham, Maine) cleared 1.50 meters to finish tied for 14th, while freshman Ciara Pina (Taunton, Mass.) also cleared the same height.

Additional contributions came throughout the sprint group, with freshmen Kaylin Findley (Wallingford, Conn.) and Jordyn Wall-Carty (Woodridge, N.Y.) competing in the 200 meters, both turning in new personal marks in the race.

The Penmen return to action next Saturday, January 24, at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
