HOOKSETT, N.H. – It was a banner week for the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team, as the Penmen earned national recognition, cracked the polls, and collected multiple honors.
Junior Joey Gallo (Derry, N.H.) headlined the week by being named the Division II National Player of the Week by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Gallo totaled seven goals and seven assists in SNHU's first two games, including a team-high four goals in Saturday's victory over No. 11 Molloy.
With the win, the Penmen improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2018 and earned spots in both national polls. SNHU checks in at No. 19 in the USILA Coaches Poll and No. 18 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Weekly Poll.
The recognition didn't stop there. The New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) announced its new Preseason Watch Lists for the 2026 season across Divisions I, II, and III. The watch lists replace the former All-New England Preseason Teams and are designed to provide broader exposure and balanced representation for student-athletes throughout the region. Two Penmen were selected: junior goalkeeper Matt Roy (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Lasse Volquardsen (Frankfurt, Germany).
On Monday, the Northeast 10 added to the accolades, naming Gallo Player of the Week, Roy Goalkeeper of the Week, and Volquardsen Rookie of the Week.
SNHU returns to action Sunday at Caldwell University.
