The SNHU women's indoor track & field team continued its indoor season Friday at the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational. The Penmen had another opportunity to prep at The TRACK at New Balance, where the Northeast 10 Championships will be held on February 19-20.
Middle-distance group continues to shine
- Sophomore Erika Wojcik (North Andover, Mass.) led the way for the Penmen in the middle-distance events, placing fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.18, narrowly missing her personal best of 2:16.13. Wojcik also ran a leg on SNHU's "A" 4x400 relay.
- Junior Kay Wheelock (Milford, Mass.) delivered a strong performance in the 400 meters, recording a new personal best of 1:00.60 in the invitational section.
Sprint group gains experience and PRs
- Senior Hope Sinclair (Hampton, N.H.) and sophomore Hannah Sippel (Chester, N.H.) represented SNHU in the sprint events, with Sippel competing in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. Her 8.00 in the 60m just missed a PR (7.99).
- Freshman Elizabeth Descheneaux (Methuen, Mass.) posted a new personal best in the 60-meter dash and later tied her career-best mark in the high jump.
- Fellow freshman Kaylin Findley (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded a personal record in the 200 meters, while freshman Erin Kelley (Braintree, Mass.) also set a new PR in the event.
Distance depth on display
- SNHU saw multiple personal-best performances in the distance races. Junior Deirdre Bailat (North Billerica, Mass.) recorded a new personal record in the 3,000 meters (10:45.26), while junior Natalie Sicard (Nottingham, N.H.) also set a PR in the event.
- Junior Kora Hay (Coventry, R.I.) represented the Penmen in the 5,000 meters, adding to SNHU's presence in the longer distance events.
Relays and field events
- The Penmen entered two 4x400 meter relay teams. The "A" relay of Sippel, Wojcik, freshman Lindy Moreland (Gorham, Maine), and Wheelock finished 13th overall with a time of 4:10.15.
- In the field events, freshman Jordyn Wall-Carty (Woodridge, N.Y.) turned in a new personal best in the triple jump (9.80m), while senior Brooke Bibbo (Burlington, Mass.) narrowly missed her personal record in the shot put, finishing just shy of her best mark of 11.77 meters. Freshman Lily Bower (Billerica, Mass.) also competed in the jumps.
UP NEXT:
- The Penmen return to action on February 13–14, competing Friday at Harvard and Saturday at Boston University. The meets will serve as SNHU's final tune-ups before the Northeast 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for February 19–20 at the TRACK at New Balance.
