NO. ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior
Dajana Abadzic (Weinstadt, Germany) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team collected NE10 Player of the Week honors for the period ending April 12, the league office announced Tuesday.
Abadzic, who also captured the award back on March 10, went 5-1 during a 3-0 week for SNHU, including 2-1 in singles. Abadzic's only loss came to the College of the Holy Cross' Phoebe Devine (5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6) at the top flight in a 4-3 win Wednesday. She bounced back with a No. 1 singles win against Marie Knispel (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) in a 4-3 victory at Assumption University on Thursday and closed the week in Saturday's 5-2 triumph over Saint Michael's College with a 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-8 win against Olivia Larsen at No. 2. Abadzic also teamed with sophomore
Lois Tsui (Amsterdam, Netherlands) for a trio of No. 1 doubles wins against Holy Cross's Devine and Margaret Winiecki (6-4), Assumption's Darja Trinerova and Marian Aguirre (6-2), and Saint Michael's Lucy McPherson and Jedidah Xu (6-2).
Abadzic is 8-9 this season in singles play, including 5-5 in NE10 action. She and Tsui are 14-3 in doubles, including 8-2 in the league. The duo recently jumped into the April 8 ITA Division II National Rankings at No. 49.
Abadzic and the Penmen (12-5) are in action later Tuesday (April 14) at 3 p.m. when they play host to Colby-Sawyer College at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
