Freshman Valentina Bugnatto (Wilmington, N.C.) posted 10 kills and five aces, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Jefferson Invitational on Friday at the Gallagher Center. The Penmen lost a 3-0 decision to Holy Family University, before another three-set loss to host Thomas Jefferson University later in the day.
KEY MOMENTS
- Trailing Holy Family, 2-0, in the match and 24-20 in the third set, SNHU reeled off four straight – capped by an ace from fifth year Meri Ibrahimi (Woburn, Mass.) – to tie it at 24-all. Holy Family answered with back-to-back kills, however, to take the match.
- Jefferson was looking to put the match away, up 2-0 in the third set. It led, 8-5, when it ripped off an 11-3 stretch to take a commanding 19-8 advantage and eventually win the contest.
NOTES
- Bugnatto had five kills and five aces against Holy Family, before submitting five more kills versus Jefferson.
- Junior Jordyn Carroll (Moultonborough, N.H.) paced the Penmen with eight kills against the Tigers and then matched Bugnatto with five more versus the Rams.
- Ibrahimi collected 19 digs against Holy Family.
- Freshman Lonnie Briggs (Omaha, Neb.) added five kills on .400 hitting against HFU.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen wrap up the Jefferson Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 5) with matches against St. Thomas Aquinas College (10 a.m.) and East Stroudsburg University (12:30 p.m.)
- SNHU returns home Tuesday, Sept. 15 (7 p.m.) when it plays host to Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action.
