- Senior Sara Tucker (Red Hook,
NY) totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Southern New
Hampshire University to a 70-54 Northeast-10 women's basketball
victory over The College of Saint Rose Wednesday night at the SNHU
Fieldhouse. The Penmen improve to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the
Northeast-10, while the Golden Knights are 1-3 overall and 0-3 in
the league.
Tucker finished 8-13 from the floor
and led three Penmen in double figures as she posted her second
straight double-double. Brooke Lefort
(Cumberland, RI) was 5-6 from the field en route to a career-high
13 points, while Kristen Anderson (Hooksett, NH)
finished with 10 points, four assists and four rebounds.
Ashara Carrington (Marblehead, MA) totaled eight
points and six rebounds.
Elizabeth Buckley
(East Lyme, CT) was 4-9 from three-point land and finished with a
game-high 21 points for Saint Rose but had just three of her points
in the second half. Emily Gottstein (Albany,
NY) finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Golden
Knights.
Southern New Hampshire trailed
35-31 at halftime but opened the second half with a 7-2 spurt to
tie the game at 38-38 on a three-pointer from Anderson at the 16:04
mark. On SNHU's next possession Tucker would score as the
Penmen took the lead for good. The Penmen broke the game open
with a 10-0 run capped by a Tucker basket at the 8:19 mark to claim
a 55-43 lead. Saint Rose would get no closer than eight
points the rest of the way and SNHU took its largest lead, 70-51,
with 1:15 to go on a conventional three-point play by Lefort.
Saint Rose jumped out to a 14-4
lead just over four minutes into the game following a Buckley
trifecta, but the Penmen would use a 11-3 run capped by a Anderson
three at the 12:49 mark to make it 17-15. Southern New
Hampshire would take its first lead since the game's opening
moments on a Lefort basket with 5:56 before intermission that made
it 24-22. The guests would score six of the final eight
points of the first half to take a 35-31 lead into the locker room.
The Penmen shot 55.2% in the second
half and limited the Golden Knights to 28.6% shooting over the
final 20 minutes, including just 1-11 from three-point land.
Saint Rose held a 37-34 rebounding advantage but was haunted by 21
turnovers.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it travels to Pace University for a 1:30
contest.
