Women's Basketball Rallies to Top Pace

BOX SCORE

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Senior Brooke Lefort (Cumberland, RI) matched her career high with 13 points and hit the game-winning basket with 14 seconds remaining to lift Southern New Hampshire University to a 54-52 Northeast-10 women's basketball victory over Pace University Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Center.  The Penmen, who won their second straight, improved to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Setters are 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the NE-10.

Lefort matched her career high she established in a win over Saint Rose on Wednesday by going 6-8 from the floor.  Ashara Carrington (Marblehead, MA) totaled 11 points for the Penmen, who also got eight points from Heather Marino (Billerica, MA).  Stephanie Klingele led Pace with 11 points.

SNHU, which trailed 34-25 at halftime, was down 48-43 with 4:43 left when it ran off six unanswered points to take a 49-48 lead following back-to-back layups by Sara Tucker (Red Hook, NY).  Pace would retake the lead on a Kristin Connolly basket, then a conventional three-point play by Lefort with 1:34 left gave the Penmen a 52-50 lead.

Stephanie Rossmy would tie the game for Pace with 1:15 left.  SNHU would turn the ball over on its next possession, but following a foul, Rossmy would miss a pair at the line.  On SNHU's next trip, Lefort scored with 14 seconds left to give the guests a 54-52 lead, with Andrea Lozeau (Pelham, NH) assisting on the eventual game-winner.  Pace had two possessions in the final seconds but missed a potential game-tying basket and turned it over on its final possession.

Pace jumped out to a 14-4 lead just 4:19 in the game and took its largest lead, 32-19, following a pair of Rossmy free throws with 3:33 left.  The Setters led 34-25 at halftime and 41-32 with 13:15 to go in the second half before Southern New Hampshire ran off nine unanswered points to tie the game at 41 following a Kristen Anderson (Hooksett, NH) three-pointer at the 10:34 mark.

The Penmen, who outrebounded Pace 42-41, held the Setters to 25% shooting in the second half and forced 27 Pace turnovers.

Southern New Hampshire's next game comes Tuesday when the Penmen travel to Saint Anselm College for a 5:30 contest.
