NO. 14 FRANKLIN PIERCE
BLANKS MEN'S SOCCER
BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. - James Thorpe (East
Longmeadow, MA) made one save en route to his fifth shutout of the
season as No. 14 Franklin Pierce University posted a 2-0
Northeast-10 men's soccer victory over Southern New Hampshire
University Wednesday evening at Larkin Field. The Ravens, who
are unbeaten in their last eight games, improve to 7-1-1 overall
and 6-0-1 in Northeast-10 play, while the Penmen are now 2-4-3 and
2-3-1 in the league.
The Ravens would tally both of
their goals in the second half. David
Clifton (London, England) got FPU on the board at the
68:13 mark when he converted a penalty kick. The guests were
awarded the penalty kick after a Raven played was pushed down in
the box in a battle for a loose ball.
Franklin Pierce would make it 2-0
2:45 later when it scored off a corner kick. An initial shot
attempt by Henning Come (Gothenburg, Sweden) was
turned aside by SNHU keeper Dan Pelc (Hamilton,
ONT), but Bisharra Ettienne (East Elmhurst, NY)
knocked home the rebound.
The Penmen almost halved the lead
with just over eight minutes to play when a shot by Daniel
Hernandez (Salem, NH) nearly snuck in under the crossbar,
but Thorpe was able to deflect it at the last second.
Thorpe now has 42 career shutouts
for Franklin Pierce, which outshot Southern New Hampshire
11-4. Pelc turned aside four shots for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts American International College in a
4:00 match at Larkin Field. Franklin Pierce hosts Stonehill
College Saturday for a 7:00 match.
