MANCHESTER, N.H. - Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT) drilled five
three pointers and totaled 27 points as Pace University recorded an
81-71 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10
women's basketball Saturday afternoon. The Setters improve to
7-15 and 6-11 in the league with the win, while the Penmen are now
11-12 overall and 7-11 in the league.
Losey finished 5-7 from three-point
land and 10-16 overall. Stephanie Klingele
(Staten Island, NY) finished with 13 points for the Setters, who
also got 10 points apiece from Stephanie Rossmy
(Staten Island, NY) and Lisa Welsome (Staten
Island, NY).
Julia Houghtaling
(Franconia, NH) finished with a career-high 25 points for Southern
New Hampshire, going 9-13 from the floor. She also grabbed
nine rebounds. Stephanie Houghton
(Manchester, NH) added 18 points and handed out five assists, while
Sara Tucker (Red Hook, NY) registered 10 points.
Pace led most of the second half
and held a 58-49 lead with 9:11 to play following a conventional
three-point play by Losey. Six straight points by the Penmen
capped by a Tucker layup cut the lead to 58-55 with 7:27 to
go. The Setters answered with an 12-6 run and a three by
Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY) made it 70-59
with 4:13 left.
SNHU chipped away at the lead and a
three from the top of the key by Houghton with just over two
minutes to play cut the lead to 73-67. That would be as close
as the Penmen would get, as Pace sealed the win by going 5-6 from
the charity stripe in the final 1:12.
The Setters jumped out to a 11-4
lead just 3:29 into the game and led by 11 three times, the last
coming at the 8:32 mark on a basket by Rossmy that made it
23-12. SNHU got itself back into the game by going on a 12-3
run capped by a pair of Houghton free throws that made it 26-24
with just over four minutes left. The Penmen took their first
lead with just under two minutes to go on a Houghtaling
basket. SNHU led 33-31 at halftime.
Pace shot 69.2% (18-26) over the
final 20 minutes and was 6-8 from three-point land in the second
half. The Setters were 55.6% overall and 50% (9-18) from
behind the arc for the game. SNHU shot 63.6% (14-22) over the
opening 20 minutes and 59.6% for the game, but was hurt by 24
turnovers. The hosts held a 28-23 rebounding advantage.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday
when it travels to Stonehill College for a 5:30 game.
