MANCHESTER, N.H. -
Host Southern New Hampshire University jumped out to a 9-2 first
quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 21-3 Northeast-10
men's lacrosse victory over American International College at
Larkin Field Saturday afternoon. The Penmen evened their
record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Yellow
Jackets are now 1-4 and 0-4 in the NE-10.
Mike Ball (Salem,
NH) led Southern New Hampshire with seven goals and two assists,
while Spencer Rennick (Peabody, MA) totaled five
goals and three assists. Keith Merluzzo
(Billerica, MA) registered three goals and five assists, while
Sean Ball (Salem, NH) added two goals and two
assists. John Delanoy (Lansdale, PA)
recorded a goal and three assists.
Leon Mularski, Alex Casparius and
Aaron McNab all had single goals for AIC.
SNHU never trailed and jumped out
to a 6-0 lead 6:47 into the game on a goal by Rennick. The
Penmen would hold a 9-2 lead after one quarter and shut out the
Yellow Jackets in the second and third quarters to lead 13-2 at
halftime and 18-2 after three quarters.
Eric Gunst
(Exeter, NH) earned the win in goal for SNHU, stopping seven shots
in the first 40:15 before being relieved by Mickey
Hover (Montgomery, NJ), who made three saves the rest of
the way. Mark Taylor started for American International and
made two saves in the first 11:26 before being spelled by Max
Castleman, who made 10 saves the rest of the way. The Penmen
held a commanding 54-19 shot advantage and won 19 of 25 faceoffs.
SNHU returns to action Tuesday when
it travels to Assumption College for a 7:00 contest.
