WORCESTER, Mass. -
Mike Ball (Salem, NH) totaled six goals and an
assist to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 13-7
Northeast-10 men's lacrosse victory over Assumption College at
Rocheleau Field Tuesday night. The Penmen, who are receiving
votes in this week's USILA Division II poll, improved to 3-2
overall and 2-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds are now
2-6 and 0-4 in the league.
Ball, the national leader in
Division II in points and goals per game, has now totaled 13 goals
and three assists over the last two games. Keith
Merluzzo (Billerica, MA) totaled two goals, while
John Delanoy (Lansdale, PA) racked up a goal and
three assists. Chris Dindler (Stepheney,
Australia) added a goal and an assist, while Spencer
Rennick (Peabody, MA), Sean Ball (Salem,
NH) and Terrence Nash (Oceanside, NY) each
recorded single goals.
Mike Molk led Assumption with a
pair of tallies.
Southern New Hampshire trailed 2-1
after one quarter, but used a six-goal second period to take a 7-3
halftime lead. Mike Ball scored back-to-back goals 1:19 apart
early in the period to give SNHU a 3-2 lead, then three more Penmen
goals capped by a Delanoy goal with 2:12 before halftime gave the
guests a 6-2 lead.
Merluzzo and Sean Ball scored the
first two goals of the second half to extend the SNHU lead to 9-3
before the Greyhounds scored three straight to pull within 9-6 with
4:44 left in the third quarter. Dindler and Mike Ball scored
25 seconds apart late in the frame to make it 11-3 heading into the
final period.
Eric Gunst
(Exeter, NH) made nine saves for SNHU en route to the victory.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Saint Michael's College for
a 1:00 game.
