BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Greg Rogowski totaled two goals and an assist as eighth-ranked Merrimack College edged Southern New Hampshire University 9-8 in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse Saturday afternoon.  The Warriors improved to 7-2 and 4-2 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen saw a five-game win streak snapped and are now 5-3 and 4-2 in the league.

Mike Ball (Salem, NH) led Southern New Hampshire with four goals, while brother Sean Ball (Salem, NH) had a pair of goals.  Spencer Rennick (Peabody, MA) totaled a goal and an assist while Marc Novaco (Chelmsford, MA) had SNHU's other tally.  Reid Eichelberger and Bryan MacPhie also had two goals apiece for Merrimack.

After holding a 5-4 halftime lead, Southern New Hampshire was shut out in the third quarter and Merrimack took a 6-5 lead after three quarters.  The Warriors would extend their lead to 9-6 just over five minutes into the final frame on Rogowski's second goal of the game.

Mike Ball would score back-to-back goals 33 seconds apart, the second coming with 6:38 left, to cut the lead to one.  Merrimack would control possession most of the rest of the way, but a Warrior penalty with just under a minute left gave the Penmen a final man-up opportunity.  SNHU would put a pair of shots on target with the man advantage but could not come up with the equalizer.

MacPhie would score just 48 seconds into the game for Merrimack, but Rennick would tie the game just 10 seconds later and Sean Ball gave the Penmen a 2-1 lead  Mike Ball scored at the 6:30 mark to increase SNHU's lead to 3-1, and the hosts led 3-2 after one quarter.  After the two teams traded goals early in the second quarter, MacPhie tied the game 7:08 into the period, but Sean Ball would give the Penmen a 5-4 lead with 6:52 left before intermission, which would be the halftime score.

Cory Spinale made 17 saves in goal for Merrimack en route to the win.  Eric Gunst (Exeter, NH) made 11 saves for SNHU, which was outshot by the Warriors 38-34.

SNHU returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Saint Anselm College for a 7:00 game at Larkin Field.
