CAMBRIDGE,
Mass.-- Junior Nisarg Patel (Chelsea, Mass.)
clinched the deciding point with a three-set triumph at number six
singles to lift Suffolk to a 5-4 non-league college men's tennis
dual-match victory over Southern New Hampshire Sunday afternoon on
the Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Courts.
Patel overcame a one-set deficit to
claim a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win for the host Rams (4-3), as he also
teamed with fellow junior Greg Garrison (Beacon, N.Y.) for an 8-6
triumph at number three doubles. Suffolk received straight
set singles victories from junior Garrett Freeman (Beacon, N.Y.)
and freshmen Justin Ayoub (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Nick Pratt (Sutton,
Mass.) in recording its fourth win in five home dual-matches to
date while snapping a two-match winless skein.
Junior Luis Ramirez (San Cristobal,
Venezuela) and sophomore David Spaggiari (Manizales, Colombia) were
winners in both singles and doubles play in the setback for the
visiting Penmen (4-7), as each won in straight sets at the top two
singles spots before teaming up for an 8-4 triumph at number one
doubles. The Londonderry, N.H. junior tandem of Michael
Ricciardi and Sam Gould combined for the other point of the day for
Southern New Hampshire with an 8-2 win at number two doubles.
Suffolk heads to Quincy, Mass. on
Wednesday afternoon for a non-league dual-match with Eastern
Nazarene that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Southern New Hampshire
will be idle until Tuesday, April 22nd when the Penmen compete in
the quarterfinal round of the 2008 Northeast-10 Conference
Championships.
