MANCHESTER, N.H. -
Chris Murphy (Winchester, MA) scored seven goals,
including the game-winner 18 seconds into overtime, and added two
assists as Saint Anselm College rallied from a 13-9 deficit after
three quarters to post a 15-14 Northeast-10 men's lacrosse victory
over Southern New Hampshire University at Larkin Field Tuesday
night.  The Hawks improved to 6-5 and 4-2 in the NE-10, while
the Penmen are now 5-4 and 4-3 in the league.
Saint Anselm trailed 13-9 heading
into the fourth quarter after SNHU's Mike Ball
(Salem, NH) scored with four seconds left in the third
period.  The Hawks would score five straight goals in the
fourth and took a 14-13 lead with 2:56 left on a Steve
Trocki (Braintree, MA) goal, his third goal in a row in a
span of 5:46.  Southern New Hampshire would force overtime
with 1:02 left when Ball found Keith Merluzzo
(Billerica, MA) open for his fifth goal of the game.
The Hawks would control the faceoff
to start overtime and immediately called timeout.  Out of the
timeout, Murphy took the ball on the right side, got past an SNHU
defender and fired a low shot past Penmen keeper Eric
Gunst (Exeter, NH).
Southern New Hampshire trailed just
once in the early going and led 4-3 after one quarter and 8-6 at
halftime.  Murphy would get the Hawks back within two, 11-9,
with just over a minute left in the third quarter, but
Spencer Rennick (Peabody, MA) and Ball would score
twice in the final 10 seconds of the third to give the hosts a 13-9
lead with one quarter left.
Trocki finished with three goals
for Saint Anselm, while Matt Surette (Wakefield,
MA) added two goals.  Merluzzo finished with five goals and an
assist for Southern New Hampshire, which also got two goals and an
assist from Ball and Chris Dindler (Stephney,
Australia).  John Delanoy (Lansdale, PA) also
finished with a pair of goals.
Dan Flynn
(Wakefield, MA) earned the win in goal for Saint Anselm, stopping
15 shots.  Gunst made 13 saves for the Penmen, who were
outshot 53-49.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Saturday when it travels to No. 1 Le Moyne College for a
1:00 contest.
