ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - An RBI single by Ashley
Guertin (Manchester, NH) in the top of the seventh inning
lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 5-4 win over Molloy
College in game two of a softball doubleheader Sunday
afternoon. The Penmen, who dropped the first game 4-1, are
now 10-15 overall, while the Lions are 21-19 on the season.
In the nightcap, SNHU trailed 4-1
after two innings, but quickly got two runs back in the top of the
third on a two-run home run by Casey Stoodley
(Salem, NH). The Penmen would tie the game in the top of the
sixth when Nicole Arpin (Cheshire, CT) led off
with a double and scored when Laurie Boland
(Worcester, MA) reached on a fielding error. In the seventh,
Stoodley led off the inning with a single and after advancing on an
error, came home on Guertin's single.
SNHU's other run came in the top of
the second when Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA)
singled to score Valerie Martins (Somerset, MA).
Stoodley, Martins and Arpin all
finished with two hits apiece in game two as the Penmen outhit the
Lions 10-6. Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA)
earned the win, allowing just one hit after the second inning and
giving up a pair of earned runs.
In the opener, Molloy scored twice
in the bottom of the first and after the Penmen scored in the top
of the second, added another run to make it 3-1. Molloy's
other run would come in the top of the fifth. The lone Penmen
run came when a double by Guertin scored Elena
Anderson (Salem, WI), who reached on a fielders' choice.
Andrea Clausi
(Kingston, NY) had a pair of hits to lead SNHU in the opener.
Samantha Chickering (Hillsboro, NH) took the loss
for SNHU, working the first four innings and allowing eight hits
and three earned runs.
SNHU returns to NE-10 play Tuesday
when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 3:00 twinbill.
