NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Southern New Hampshire University softball team swept a Northeast-10 doubleheader from Merrimack College by scores of 3-2 and 13-4 Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Field.  The Penmen improved to 12-17 overall and 8-10 in the NE-10, while the Warriors are now 8-22 and 8-14 in the league.

In the opener, the Penmen would get all the runs they would need in the first two innings.  Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) belted a solo home run to give SNHU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.  The Penmen would score twice in the second.  Ashley Guertin (Manchester, NH) led off the inning by reaching on an error, then scored on another throwing error after Nicole Arpin (Cheshire, CT) singled.  Arpin would score the third SNHU run on a passed ball.  The Warriors would get their only two runs in the bottom of the third.

Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) earned the win in the circle for Southern New Hampshire, allowing just four hits in a complete game effort.  Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH) had a pair of hits for the Penmen in the opener.

In the nightcap, SNHU belted three home runs as part of a 13-hit attack.  Bernstein belted two home runs, both times with a pair of runners on as she collected six RBI in the game.  Her blast in the third gave the Penmen a 4-0 lead, while her second round-tripper in the sixth made it a 10-2 game.  Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY) would belt a three-run home run in the seventh.

Bernstein finished with three hits in game two, while Stoodley, Clausi, Guertin and Michelle Maranto (East Hampstead, NH) all had two hits apiece, with Stoodley extending her hit streak to nine games.  Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA) earned the complete-game victory for SNHU, striking out four.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Thursday when it travels to Saint Anselm College for a 3:00 doubleheader.
