MANCHESTER, N.H. - Visiting Southern New Hampshire University split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader with Saint Anselm College Thursday afternoon, dropping the first game 3-0 before outslugging the Hawks in an 11-2, five-inning win in the nightcap.  The Penmen are now 13-18 overall and 9-11 in the NE-10, while the Hawks are 19-14-1 and 13-10-1 in the league.

After dropping the first game, the Penmen jumped all over the hosts with a five run first inning.  SNHU recorded four hits while also taking advantage of a pair of Hawk errors.  Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) delivered a two-run single while Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA) also had an RBI single.  Southern New Hampshire then tacked on two runs in the third, one in the fourth and closed out the scoring in the fifth when Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY) delivered a three-run double to left-center.

Clausi was 3-4 with four RBI in the nightcap while Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA), Valerie Martins (Somerset, MA) and Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) all had two hits apiece.  Boland also drove in a pair of runs.  Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA) earned the win, giving up seven hits in five innings.

In game one, Southern New Hampshire was held to just four hits as Saint Anselm manufactured single runs in the first, third and fourth innings.  Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH) had a sixth inning single to extend her hitting streak to 10 games before she went hitless in the nightcap to see her string come to an end.

Bernstein took the loss in a complete-game effort for SNHU.

Southern New Hampshire hosts Saint Rose in a doubleheader Friday at 3:00.
