MANCHESTER, N.H. - Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY) belted a pair of home runs as Southern New Hampshire swept a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader from The College of Saint Rose at Penmen Field Friday afternoon.  The Penmen rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 5-4 win in game one, then posted a 2-0 shutout in the nightcap.  SNHU improved to 15-18 overall and 11-11 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights are now 15-19 and 12-12 in the league.

In game one, Saint Rose used a two-run single by Megan Rios in the top of the ninth to break a 2-2 tie and go up 4-2.  Clausi would lead off the bottom of the ninth with her first home run of the afternoon to center that made it 4-3.  The next batter, Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA), singled and was replaced by Valerie Martins (Somerset, MA) who she was pinch-hitting for.

Martins advanced to second on a passed ball then was bunted over to third by Ashley Guertin (Manchester, NH).  Elena Anderson (Salem, WI) then delivered a perfectly placed bunt single between first and the pitcher's circle that allowed Martins to score the game-tying run.

Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) would bunt Anderson to second.  The next batter, Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) walked.  Michelle Maranto (East Hampstead, NH) would then hit a fly ball to left that turned out to be the game-winning walkoff single when the wind knocked it down and it fell in front of the Saint Rose left fielder, allowing Anderson to score.

The game had been scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) belted a two-run home run to left to put Southern New Hampshire up 2-0.  Saint Rose would then score twice in the top of the seventh to force extra innings when Rios hit her first two-run single of the game into the gap in left-center, scoring Elizabeth Cullen and Danielle Encizo.

Maranto and Clausi each had a pair of hits for SNHU in the opener, while Rios had three of Saint Rose's seven hits.  Bernstein earned the win on the mound for the Penmen, striking out five in nine innings of work.

Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA) fired a complete-game four-hit shutout for the Penmen in the nightcap.  She had a perfect game for 3.2 innings before surrendering a single to Kristen Callahan.  She walked just one in the victory while striking out one.

Clausi gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when she belted a two-out solo home run to straightaway center. SNHU's other run came in the bottom of the fifth when Maranto's single up the middle with two outs scored Anderson.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to Pace University for a noon doubleheader.
