SMITHFIELD, R.I. -
Third-ranked Bryant University jumped out to a 7-1 lead after one
quarter and never looked back en route to a 24-7 win over Southern
New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse Saturday
afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 12-3 overall and 9-1 in
the NE-10, while the Penmen see their season come to a close at 5-7
and 4-6 in the league.
Mike Ball (Salem,
NH) led Southern New Hampshire with four goals, while Keith
Merluzzo (Billerica, MA) and Chris
Dindler (Stephney, Australia) each tallied a goal and an
assist. John Delanoy (Lansdale, PA) had the
other Penmen tally. Gary Crowley and Bryan Kauffman each led
Bryant with four goals and an assist.
Bryant scored the first two goals
of the game but Delanoy would score with 8:29 left in the first
quarter to cut the Bulldog lead to 2-1. The hosts would then
proceed to score the final five goals of the first quarter to take
a 7-1 lead after one. Dindler would score just over four
minutes into the second quarter to make it 7-2. Merluzzo
scored with 59 seconds left before halftime to make it a 10-5
Bryant lead at the break.
The Bulldogs came out and scored
the first three goals of the third quarter and outscored the Penmen
8-2 in the third to take an 18-7 lead heading into the final
frame. SNHU would be blanked over the final 15 minutes as
Bryant scored six goals to account for the final.
Eric Gunst
(Exeter, NH) and Mickey Hover (Middletown, NJ)
combined to make 25 saves for Southern New Hampshire as the Penmen
were outshot 67-25.
