LEOMINSTER, Mass. - Casey Stoodley
(Salem, NH) delivered a two-out two-run double in the top of the
eighth inning as Southern New Hampshire University posted a 2-0,
extra-inning win in game two of a Northeast-10 softball
doubleheader against Franklin Pierce University Monday
afternoon. The Ravens took a 2-1 win in the first game.
SNHU is now 4-9 overall and 1-5 in
the NE-10, while the Ravens are 2-18 and 1-7 in the league.
With the nightcap heading into
extra innings scoreless, Ashley Bernstein
(Stoughton, MA) got the rally started with a one-out single to
left. After the next batter flied
out, Ashley Guertin (Manchester,
NH) doubled to put two runners in scoring position for Stoodley,
who doubled to right to drive in the game's only runs.
Mary Bradford (Big
Bear, CA) earned the win on the mound, allowing just four hits en
route to the shutout. Karissa Bettencourt
(Norton, MA) had three hits as part of a 5-8 effort at the plate in
the doubleheader. Stoodley was 2-3 at the plate.
In the first game, Franklin Pierce
scored two runs in the bottom of the second when Kristen Tracy
delivered a two-out, two-run double. The Penmen would score
their lone run in the top of the fifth when Laurie
Boland (Worcester, MA) singled with two outs and came home
on a triple by Bettencourt. Bettencourt and Boland each
finished with two hits apiece in the opener.
Bernstein took the loss on the
mound for the Penmen, scattering six hits while fanning six.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday when it hosts Bentley in a doubleheader starting
at 3:00.
