GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire University softball team swept both ends of a Northeast-10 doubleheader with Bentley College by scores of 6-2 and 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the home opener for the Penmen.  SNHU improved to 6-9 and 3-5 in the NE-10 with the wins, while the Falcons are now 10-10 overall and 5-5 in league play.

In the opener, Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) was 3-4 at the plate while Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) and Nicole Arpin (Cheshire, CT) each had a pair of hits as the hosts banged out 11 hits.  SNHU hurler Mary Bradford (Big Bear, CA) limited the Falcons to just a pair of hits and struck out six in a complete game effort.

Bentley scored two times in the top of the first.  Briana Kneeland would drive in Dina Ferriero on a single to right, while Ashley DeRosa would score on a passed ball.  The Penmen took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second.  Casey Stoodley (Salem, NH) and Arpin each had RBI singles while Boland drove in a pair of runs on a double to center field.  Southern New Hampshire would score two more times with two outs in the sixth, as Stoodley scored on a double by Arpin.  Arpin would score on a single by Bettencourt.

In game two, Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) earned the win on the mound, scattering seven hits while fanning five.  She also helped her own cause at the plate with a two-run home run to center field in the fifth.  Boland was 3-3 at the plate in the nightcap.  Ferriero and Alex Hitchcock each had a pair of hits for Bentley.

Southern New Hampshire plated a run in the bottom of the first when a double by Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY) scored Bernstein, who had reached on a fielder's choice.  After Bernstein's two-run blast in the fifth gave the Penmen a three-run cushion, the hosts tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when a single by Boland brought home Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA).

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Friday when it travels to Merrimack College for a 3:30 twinbill.
