WORCESTER, Mass. - Despite a career-high 24 points from Ashara Carrington (Marblehead, MA), the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team fell to host Assumption College 67-58 Saturday afternoon at Laska Gymnasium in a Northeast-10 contest.  The Greyhounds won their third straight to improve to 9-6 and 7-4 in the NE-10, while the Penmen saw a three-game win streak snapped and are now 10-6 and 5-6 in the league.

Carrington went 8-14 from the floor and 8-12 at the free throw line and also grabbed four rebounds in just 23 minutes of action.  Megan Smith (Smithfield, ME) was the other Penmen player in double figures as she finished with 10 points on 5-6 shooting.  Alyssa Whitney (Somerville, MA) totaled nine points while Stephanie Houghton (Manchester, NH) added eight.

Bethany Plasski led four Greyhounds in double figures with 22 points.  Kayla Parker registered 11 points and nine rebounds, while Molly Griffiths and Kelly Meredith each added 10 points.

Assumption never trailed and built a 10-2 lead just 3:26 into the game.  Southern New Hampshire cut the lead to four, 14-10, with 11:32 left on a basket by Smith.  The Greyhounds used a 8-2 run to take a 22-12 lead at the 7:43 mark and took their largest lead of the frame with 23 seconds to play when Griffiths buried a three to make it 35-23, which would be the halftime score.

The Penmen would whittle the lead down to seven, 40-33, with just over five minutes gone in the second half following a basket by Carrington.  Assumption responded with a 12-3 run and a layup by Parker with just over nine minutes to play gave the hosts a 52-36 lead.  The Greyhounds would maintain a double-digit advantage until SNHU cut the lead to nine three times in the final 1:26.

Assumption held a commanding 40-23 rebounding advantage, including a 14-5 edge on the offensive glass that led to a 22-6 margin in second chance points.  The Penmen were just 3-19 from behind the arc, while the Greyhounds converted 18 of their 22 free throw opportunities.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday night when it travels to American International College for a 5:30 contest.
