SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Stacy Boisvert
finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead American
International College to a 59-55 Northeast-10 women's basketball
victory over Southern New Hampshire University at Butova Gymnasium
Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets won their fourth in a row
to improve to 14-7 overall and 9-4 in the NE-10, while the Penmen
are 10-7 and 5-7 in the league.
Boisvert led three AIC players in
double figures. Laechia Conley also recorded 16 points and
seven assists off the bench, while Jeannette Jonathan drained a
pair of three pointers and totaled 12 points.
Alyssa Whitney
(Somerville, MA) paced Southern New Hampshire with 12 points, going
5-6 from the floor, while Julia Houghtaling
(Franconia, NH) recorded 11 points. Megan Smith
(Smithfield, ME) added 10 points off the bench while Ashara
Carrington (Marblehead, MA) notched seven points and
six rebounds.
In a second half that saw six lead
changes and three ties, neither side led by more than four points,
American International used a 6-0 spurt to take a eight point lead,
57-49, with 1:57 left on a pair of free throws by Conley. The
Penmen would score the game's next six points, and back-to-back
baskets by Smith at 59 seconds and Whitney with 35 seconds left cut
the lead to two, 57-55.
Whitney would foul Conley with 16
seconds left, but Conley would miss the front end of the
one-and-one and Houghtaling would grab the rebound. After
calling a timeout with just over 10 seconds left, SNHU would turn
the ball over and was forced to foul. Jonathan would sink a
pair at the line to seal the win for AIC.
Southern New Hampshire led much of
the first half, scoring the game's first five points and using a
9-0 run capped by a basket by Smith at the eight-minute mark to
take a 21-13 lead, its largest of the game. The Yellow
Jackets countered with seven straight points, with Boisvert's
basket with 5:52 left before halftime making it a 21-20 game.
AIC scored the last five points of the frame and a basket by Conley
with two seconds left gave the hosts a 29-25 lead at halftime.
Southern New Hampshire held
American International to 37.7% from the floor while shooting 45.8%
for the game and also outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 38-34.
The Penmen were hurt by 26 turnovers, including 15 in the first
half.
SNHU returns to action Saturday
when it hosts Pace University in a 1:30 contest at the SNHU
Fieldhouse.
