MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jenny
McDade (Derry, NH) led four Southern New Hampshire
University players in double figures with 14 points and seven
rebounds as the Penmen posted a 71-59 Northeast-10 women's
basketball victory over Pace University Saturday afternoon at the
SNHU Fieldhouse. The Penmen, who stopped a two-game
slide with the win, improve to 11-7 and 6-7 in the NE-10, while the
Setters now stand at 10-6 and 7-5 in the league.
McDade finished 6-10 from the floor
and 2-4 behind the arc, with her 14 points one shy of her career
high. Megan
Shay (Candor, NY) registered a season-high 13 points
in 18 minutes off the bench, draining three of her four three-point
attempts and going 5-7 overall. Ashara Carrington
(Marblehead, MA) added 11 points and five rebounds, while
Alyssa
Whitney (Somerville, MA) finished with 10 points.
Brittany Huggins led Pace with 15
points off the bench, while Brittany Shields added 13 points and 10
rebounds.
SNHU and Pace traded the lead five
times in the first seven minutes, but the Penmen would take the
lead for good at the 13:11 mark on a layup by Shay that made it
14-12. Southern New Hampshire gradually built its lead and a
layup by Stephanie
Houghton (Manchester, NH) with 3:51 left made it
28-19. The Penmen would take a 36-29 lead into the locker
room.
Pace scored the first two baskets
of the second half to cut the lead to three, but SNHU used a 6-0
spurt to retake a nine-point advantage, 42-33, with 15:02 to play
on a three by McDade. A 12-4 Penmen run would give the hosts
a 15-point lead, 59-44, with just over eight minutes left on a
layup by Christine Duffy
(South Boston, MA). SNHU would maintain at least an
eight-point advantage the rest of the way.
Southern New Hampshire outrebounded
Pace 45-32, including a 16-6 advantage on the offensive
glass. The Penmen also generated a 25-12 edge in points off
turnovers.
SNHU returns to action on Wednesday
when it hosts Franklin Pierce University in a 5:30 contest at the
SNHU Fieldhouse.
NOTES: Carrington is averaging 13.3 points over
SNHU's last seven contests, reaching double figures in five of
those games...the Penmen improved to 5-2 at home this season.
