Third-ranked C.W. Post jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter
and never looked back, posting a 19-5 win over Southern New
Hampshire University in men's lacrosse Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers move to 8-1 on the season, while the Penmen are now
0-4 overall.
Mike Ball (Salem,
NH) led the Penmen with two goals and an assist, while Sean
Ball (Salem, NH), Dustin Latham
(Penacook, NH) and Matt Sowles (Cumberland, ME)
each had single goals for Southern New Hampshire. Greg Cerar
led C.W. Post with five goals and four assists.
The Pioneers scored all four goals
in the first period, outshooting the Penmen 13-9. Mike Ball
would get the guests on the board 1:52 into the second quarter to
make it 4-0, but C.W. Post would score six times in a span of 5:46
midway through the second quarter, with a goal by Nicholas Coric
with 4:13 left made it 10-1. The hosts would carry that lead
into halftime.
Eric Gunst
(Exeter, NH) played the first three quarters in goal and made eight
saves and allowing 15 goals before giving way to freshman
Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, MA), who made five
saves. The Pioneers outshot the Penmen 49-25.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
Long Island on Friday when it travels to No. 7 Dowling for a 4:00
contest.
