MANCHESTER, N.H. - Mike Ball (Salem, NH) totaled four
goals and two assist to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a
12-8 Northeast-10 men's lacrosse victory over Assumption College
Wednesday night at Larkin Field. The Penmen improve to 2-7
overall and 2-3 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds are 6-6 and 3-4
in the league.

(Marshfield, MA) finished with three goals for the Penmen, who also
got a pair of goals from Matt Sowles (Cumberland,
ME). Sean Ball (Salem, NH), Dustin
Latham (Penacook, NH) and Terrence Nash
(Oceanside, NY) each registered a goal and an assist, while
Keith Merluzzo (Billerica, MA) handed out three
assists.
Kevin Jurgens paced Assumption with
three goals and an assist.
Southern New Hampshire scored six
of the game's final seven goals en route to the victory. The
Penmen trailed 7-6 following a goal by Assumption's Nicholas
Violandi with 6:43 left in the third quarter. The Penmen
scored the final two goals of the third period and a Brown tally
with 1:23 left gave SNHU a 8-7 lead after three.
Brown opened the scoring a minute
into the fourth quarter, but the Greyhounds would draw back within
a goal with 11:15 to play on Matt Fletcher's goal. That would
be the final score of the night for Assumpton, as Sowles and Latham
would score 40 second apart to give SNHU an 11-8 with just over
nine minutes in the game, and Sowles would cap the win with a goal
off an assist by Mike Ball with 4:22 left.
Southern New Hampshire scored all
three goals of the first quarter, with Mike Ball finding the back
of the net twice. John Murphy would score 1:11 into the
second for Assumption, but Sean Ball would reclaim a three-goal
advantage for the Penmen 4:57 in. The Greyhounds would score
the final three goals of the half and a Jurgens score 3:03 before
intermission would tie the game 4-4 at intermission.
Jurgens scored 16 seconds into the
third quarter to give Assumption its first lead of the game.
The Penmen would strike twice in a span of 1:49, with a goal by
Mike Ball with 10:05 left in the third quarter putting SNHU back on
top. The Greyhounds answered with a pair of goals to reclaim
the lead on Violandi's goal that made it 7-6.
Brendan O'Brien
(Hopkinton, MA) made 12 saves for Southern New Hampshire as the
Penmen outshot the Greyhounds 49-32. Dan Shea made 15 stops
for Assumption. SNHU faceoff man Gary McKay
(Billerica, MA) won 19 of the game's 24 faceoffs and collected 14
ground balls.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it travels to American International College
for a 3:00 game.
