GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

EASTON, Mass. - Southern New Hampshire University and Stonehill College split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader Thursday afternoon.  The Penmen posted a 2-0 shutout victory in the opener before the Skyhawks recorded an 8-7 win in the nightcap.  SNHU is now 14-20 overall and 12-8 in the NE-10, while Stonehill is 10-18 and 10-6 in the league.

Southern New Hampshire would get the only offense of game one in the top of the second inning when Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA) delivered a two-run home run to left-center that also scored Elena Anderson (Salem, WI).  Pessotti would finish with two of the Penmen's five hits in the game.

Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, ME) earned the win for SNHU, striking out 11 to move to 5-2 on the season.  Griffin allowed just four hits, not allowing a hit until Meghan Sheehy singled with two away in the fourth, and only allowed one runner past first base.  Samantha Kratz took the loss for Stonehill, striking out six and only allowing one hit over the final five innings.

SNHU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game two, with Karissa Bettencourt (Norton, MA) singling to score the game and scoring on a single by Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA).  Bernstein would score when the next batter, Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY), doubled to right.

Stonehill would plate a run in the first then would score six times in the second, utilizing four hits, an error and a walk.  The big hit would come when Courtney Young belted a three-run home run to make it 6-2, and the Skyhawks would lead 7-2 at the end of the frame.  Stonehill tacked on another run in the fourth to make it 8-2.

Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, NH) led off the fifth with a home run, then the Penmen would score three times in the sixth, with Bettencourt delivering a two-run single.  Bernstein would homer with one out and nobody on in the seventh to pull Southern New Hampshire within a run, but the guests would get no closer.

Bernstein and Clausi each finished with three hits in the nightcap, while Bettencourt recorded a pair of hits.  Bernstein also started on the mound and went 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs (two earned), before being replaced by Kyla Puccini (North Dighton, MA).  Puccini allowed five hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it hosts Molloy College for a 1:00 doubleheader at Penmen Field.
