SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Mike
Ball (Salem, NH) totaled seven goals and three assists
to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 22-11 Northeast-10
men's lacrosse win over American International College at John
Homer Miller Field Saturday afternoon. The Penmen, who have
won two in a row and three out of their last four, improve to 3-7
and 3-3 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets are now 0-10 and 0-7
in the league.
With his effort, Ball becomes the
20th player in SNHU men's lacrosse history to reach the
100-point mark, as he has totaled 90 goals and 19 assists for 109
points. Andrew Brown
(Marshfield, MA) totaled four goals and three assists for the
Penmen, while Keith Merluzzo
(Billerica, MA) added three goals and four assists.
Sean Ball
(Salem, NH) scored three times, while Terrence Nash
(Oceanside, NY) totaled two goals and two assists. Greg Nussbaum
(Wilton, CT) notched two goals while Dustin Latham
(Penacook, NH) registered a goal and two assists.
Aaron McNab led AIC with four goals
and three assists while Dan MacIssac finished with four goals and a
pair of assists.
American International scored twice
in a 39-second span to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Penmen would
score six unanswered goals over the final 8:10 of the first quarter
to take a 6-2 lead on a Merluzzo tally with six seconds left in the
period. The Yellow Jackets scored the first three goals of
the second quarter to pull within one, 6-5, but the Penmen ran off
six straight goals in the final 5:49 of the frame, and Nash would
score as time expired in the first half to give the guests a 12-5
lead at the break.
Southern New Hampshire would
outscore AIC 6-2 in the third quarter to take an 18-7 lead after
three, then both teams would score four times in the fourth quarter
for the final.
Brendan O'Brien
(Hopkinton, MA) played the first 38:04 in goal for SNHU and made
eight saves while allowing six goals before giving way to
Eric
Gunst (Exeter, NH) who turned aside six shots and
allowed five goals the rest of the way. Mark Taylor and Max
Castleman combined for 19 saves for AIC as the Penmen outshot the
Yellow Jackets 57-43.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Monday when it travels to fifth-ranked Merrimack College for
a 7:00 contest.
