MANCHESTER, N.H. - Nicole
Arpin (Cheshire, CT) belted three home runs as
Southern New Hampshire University posted a softball sweep of Molloy
College Saturday afternoon. The Penmen, who improved to 16-20
overall, posted a 13-5, five-inning win in game one, then completed
the sweep with a 7-2 victory. Molloy is now 15-23 overall.
In the opener, SNHU jumped out to a
6-0 lead after one inning, with Melissa
Vitagliano (Bedford, NH) belting a three-run home run
as part of a four-hit attack in the first frame. The Penmen
would score six more times in the third, with Arpin delivering a
grand slam to give the Penmen a 12-4 lead. Molloy would score
in the top of the fifth to make it 12-5, but Karissa
Bettencourt (Norton, MA) ended the game in the bottom
of the fifth with her solo home run to center.
Bettencourt, Arpin, Vitagliano,
Ashley
Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) and Elena Anderson
(Salem, WI) all finished with two hits apiece as the Penmen outhit
the Lions 12-5. Jen Garloff (Lebanon,
PA) earned her first collegiate victory for Southern New Hampshire,
allowing five hits and three earned runs in five innings of work.
Molloy jumped out to a 2-0 lead in
game two in the top of the third on a two-run homer by Tiffany
D'Allessandro, but Southern New Hampshire would tie the game in the
bottom of the inning on a two-run shot by Arpin. The Penmen
would tack on five runs in the fifth, with another two-run blast by
Arpin making it 4-2. The Penmen would also get an RBI single
from Melissa
Pessotti (Burlington, MA) and a sacrifice fly by
Kelsey
Griffin (Scarborough, ME) that plated Vitagliano.
Arpin, Bernstein, Anderson and
Vitagliano all had two hits apiece in the nightcap as SNHU outhit
Molloy 10-5. Josette Cavallaro led the Lions with a pair of
hits. Amanda Barton
(Franklin, NH) also picked up her first collegiate victory for the
Penmen, scattering five hits while recording five strikeouts in a
complete-game effort.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
Northeast-10 play Tuesday when it hosts Assumption College in a
3:00 doubleheader.
