Golf Places Second at River Hawk Invitational

DRACUT, Mass. - Jeff Newell (Chicopee, MA) finished fourth overall as the Southern New Hampshire University golf team placed second out of nine schools at the UMass Lowell River Hawk Invitational held Saturday and Sunday at Meadow Creek Golf Club.  The Penmen, who led after day one with a first round score of 303, finished with a two-day total of 620, two strokes behind Adelphi University.

Newell fired a 75 on day one and carded a 77 on Sunday to finish four strokes behind medalist Brant Kummerfield of Adelphi.  He was one of three SNHU golfers to place in the top ten, as John Devito (Nashua, NH) and Shane Winslow (Portsmouth, NH) finished tied for ninth overall with a two-day total of  155.  Devito had rounds of 78 and 77, while Winslow carded a 74 on Saturday to place him one shot off the lead following the first day.

D.J. Lantz (New London, NH) placed in a tie for 17th with a score of 161 after carding a 76 on day one. Andrew Maziarz (Cumberland, RI) placed 20th with a two-day total of 163.

Southern New Hampshire, which is ranked No. 7 in the most recent NCAA East Region ranking, closes out the regular season Monday and Tuesday at the AIC Invitational in West Springfield, MA.
