MANCHESTER, N.H. - In the first home night games in program history, the Southern New Hampshire University softball team split a Northeast-10 doubleheader with No. 23 Le Moyne College Saturday night.  The Penmen took a 4-3 win in the opener, while the Dolphins posted a 10-3 win in the nightcap.  SNHU, which clinched a berth in the upcoming NE-10 Tournament with the split, is now 19-23 overall and 15-11 in the league, while Le Moyne, which saw a eight-game win streak snapped, is now 32-10 and 20-4 in the league.

SNHU's Penmen Field was outfitted with temporary lights for the twinbill, marking the first time the Penmen have played a home night game.

In the opener, Le Moyne got two runs in the top of the first when Kelcie Cashel hit a two-run single that plated Danielle VanGorder and Jennifer Farrelly.  The Dolphins would make it 3-0 in the second when a single to right by Leah Ford scored Kate Waltman, who was pinch-running for Caitlin O'Neill.  O'Neill led off with a single down the left field line.

Southern New Hampshire would score all four of its runs in the fourth as the first six batters all reached base.  Valerie Martins (Somerset, MA) led off with a single, then Nicole Arpin (Cheshire, CT) reached when her sacrifice bunt attempt was misplayed by Le Moyne.  After Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) walked, Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA) singled to center to score Martins.

Michelle Maranto (Hampstead, NH) and Elena Anderson (Salem, WI) then followed with back-to-back singles that plated Arpin and Bernstein.  Rachel Dobinski (Hopkinton, MA), pinch-running for Pessotti, scored the go-ahead run when Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY) worked a bases-loaded walk.

Anderson finished with two of SNHU's six hits as the Penmen were outhit 10-6.  Kyla Puccini (North Dighton, MA) earned the win for the Penmen, going 4.1 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits.  Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, ME) worked the final 2.2 innings and allowed two hits while striking out three to pick up the save.

In the nightcap, Le Moyne jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second then scored again in the third and two more times in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead.  The Penmen would cut it to 7-3 in the fifth when Arpin delivered a three-run triple to right.  The Dolphins would reclaim a seven-run advantage with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth.

Le Moyne outhit Southern New Hampshire 11-4 in the nightcap while the Penmen also committed three errors.  Bernstein took the loss, working the first 5.1 innings.

Southern New Hampshire closes out the regular season Sunday when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in a noon doubleheader.
