BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - Host Dowling College
scored the game's final five goals as it posted a 13-8 men's
lacrosse victory over Southern New Hampshire University Friday
afternoon. The Golden Lions improved to 3-5 overall, while
the Penmen are now 0-5 on the season.
Mike Ball (Salem,
NH) led Southern New Hampshire with three goals and an assist,
while brother Sean Ball (Salem, NH) tallied a pair
of goals. Terrence Nash (Oceanside, NY),
Andrew Brown (Marshfield, MA) and Matt
Sowles (Cumberland, ME) each had single goals for the
Penmen. John McClure led Dowling with four goals and an
assist while Redmond Killpack added three goals and an assist.
Dowling jumped out to a 3-2 lead
after one period and increased its lead to 6-3 6:27 into the second
quarter following a pair of Amato goals scored in a span of
1:13. The Penmen would then reel off four straight goals and
a goal by Sowles 1:42 before intermission would give the guests a
7-6 lead. Killpack scored with 31 seconds left in the half to
tie the game at 7-7 heading into halftime.
Brandon Bergersen scored 10 seconds
into the second half for the Golden Lions, but Brown would tie the
game with 9:37 left in the third quarter. Dowling would then
score two more times in the third, then added three unanswered
goals over the final 15 minutes to account for the final.
Ryan Dougherty made 10 saves in
goal for Dowling as the Golden Lions generated a 40-35 shot
advantage. Eric Gunst (Exeter, NH) stopped
12 shots for Southern New Hampshire
Southern New Hampshire returns to
Northeast-10 play Sunday when it travels to Saint Anselm College
for a 1:00 contest.
