GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. - Southern New Hampshire University and Pace University split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon.  The Setters took a 5-2 win in the opener, while the Penmen posted a 10-4 victory in the nightcap.  SNHU improved to 9-11 overall and 7-1 in the NE-10, while the Setters are now 11-10 and 5-3 in the league.

In game two, the Penmen, trailing 3-1 at the time, scored five times in the top of the third to take a 6-3 lead.  SNHU got a two-run single off the bat of Andrea Clausi (Kingston, NY), then a three-run home run from Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, MA) as the Penmen collected a total of five hits in the inning.  Southern New Hampshire would get another run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.  Clausi led off the seventh with a home run while Michelle Maranto (Hampstead, NH) delivered a two-run double.

Maranto had three hits for Southern New Hampshire in the opener while Clausi, Elena Anderson (Salem, WI), Valerie Martins (Somerset, MA) and Amanda Barton (Franklin, NH) all had two hits apiece in the second game as the Penmen had a total of 14 hits.  Ashley Bernstein (Stoughton, MA) earned the win for SNHU, allowing seven hits and four runs.

In the opener, SNHU staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the third when Clausi led off the inning with a home run.  That lead would stand until the bottom of the fourth when the Setters scored three times, then the hosts would score twice in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.  The Penmen scored their other run in the sixth when Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, NH) led off with a double, and Rachel Dobinski (Hopkinton, MA), pinch-running for Vitagliano, scored on an RBI groundout by Martins.

Anderson had the other SNHU hit in the opener as Pace's Kiryl Shada held the Penmen to just three hits.  Barton worked 1.1 innings of relief on the mound for the Penmen and took the loss.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Saint Anselm in a 3:00 doubleheader.
