WALTHAM, Mass. - Bentley University posted 3-1 and 7-1
victories en route to a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader sweep of
Southern New Hampshire University Thursday afternoon. The
Falcons improved to 15-11 and 8-6 in the NE-10, while the Penmen
are now 10-14 and 8-4 in the league.
In the opener, the Falcons took a
1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when a single by Ashley DeRosa
drove in pinch runner Liz Miskinis, who was running for Jenna
Crowell after Crowell led off the inning with a single. The
Penmen would tie the game in the top of the fourth when Elena Anderson
(Salem, WI) belted her second home run of the season, but the hosts
would score twice in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by
Lindsay Ayers that scored Christine D'Amico, and a single by Megan
Blier that plated Ayers.
Anderson had two of SNHU's four
hits in the opener, while Ayers led Bentley with a pair of
hits. Kyla
Puccini (North Dighton, MA) took the loss for SNHU,
allowing six hits and three runs in 3.2 innings of work.
In the nightcap, Bentley would
strike five times in the bottom of the third as it strung together
four hits, including a three-run double by Blier. The Penmen
would score their lone run in the top of the fourth when a double
by Kelsey
Griffin (Scarborough, ME) scored Valerie Martins
(Somerset, MA). The Falcons would tack on two more runs in
the bottom of the fourth.
Ashley Bernstein
(Stoughton, MA) recorded a pair of hits for Southern New Hampshire
in the nightcap while Ayers and Jasmine Ortiz each had three hits
as part of Bentley's 11-hit attack. Amanda Barton
(Franklin, NH) took the loss for SNHU, allowing four runs in 2.1
innings of work.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Friday when it hosts American International College in a
3:00 twinbill.
