MANCHESTER, N.H. - Muffy Sadler knocked down six
three-pointers and totaled 24 points to lead Le Moyne College to a
65-62 Northeast-10 women's basketball victory over Le Moyne College
at the SNHU Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins, who
snapped a three-game slide, improved to 6-10 overall and 3-8 in the
NE-10, while the Penmen are now 9-9 and 5-6 in the league.
Sadler made six of her 13
three-point attempts and finished 8-19 overall from the
floor. Emily Bayly was the other Dolphin in double figures as
she totaled 10 points, while Katie Hart added nine points.
Jenny McDade
(Derry, N.H.) led SNHU with 18 points on 6-11 shooting while also
grabbing seven rebounds. Sloane Sorrell
(Berwick, Maine) was 5-10 from the floor and 7-8 at the free throw
line en route to 17 points, while Ashara
Carrington (Marblehead, Mass.) totaled 11 of her 13 points
in the second half. Christine Duffy (South
Boston, Mass.) chipped in with nine points and four assists.
Le Moyne used a late 10-2 run to
build a 65-57 lead with 2:17 to play following a layup by
Hart. On the next SNHU possession, Sorrell would be fouled
and made two at the line with 2:00 on the clock to cut the lead to
six. The Dolphins turned it over on their next possession and
Carrington would make 1-of-2 at the stripe after she was fouled
going to the basket. SNHU would make it a one-possession game
with 53.6 seconds left after Carrington grabbed a Le Moyne miss and
was fouled, making both free throws to make it 65-62.
On the next Le Moyne trip, Sorrell
would come up with a steal of Sadler with 23 seconds left, giving
the Penmen one final look. Duffy would attempt a
three-pointer from the left corner as time expired, but her shot
was off the mark.
After the game was tied 29-29 at
halftime, Le Moyne led much of the second half, taking a 41-33 lead
five minutes in following back-to-back Sadler threes. The
Penmen would chip away at the lead and used a 11-2 spurt to take a
50-48 lead with 9:01 left following a Sorrell layup. Le Moyne
would take the lead for good on a pair of Bayly free throws with
4:47 left that broke a 55-55 tie.
SNHU built an early 13-7 lead, but
Le Moyne would go on a 9-0 run and a three by Sadler with 11
minutes to play in the first half put the Dolphins on top
16-13. The Penmen would retake the lead by scoring the next
five points, a conventional three-point play by Sorrell at the
10:11 mark making it 18-16 in favor of the hosts. SNHU carved
out a 27-22 lead with 3:24 left following a McDade free throw, but
Le Moyne went on a 7-0 run and took a 29-27 lead with 1:41 left on
a Hart free throw. Carrington made two free throws with 32
seconds before intermission to tie the game 29-29 at the break.
Le Moyne outrebounded Southern New
Hampshire 42-32, including a 15-8 advantage on the offensive glass
that led to a 13-6 edge in second chance points. The Penmen
made 21 more trips to the free throw line and were 23-35 at the
stripe, while the Dolphins converted 13 of their 14 free throw
attempts. Both teams committed just 10 turnovers, with the 10
giveaways a season-low for the Penmen. The guests also
connected on eight of their 20 three-point attempts.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday night when it hosts Pace University in a 5:30
contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
