NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University played a man down
for nearly 50 minutes, but the Penmen were able to play Southern
Connecticut State University to a 1-1, double-overtime Northeast-10
men's soccer tie Saturday. SNHU extended its unbeaten streak
to six games and is now 11-1-3 overall and 7-1-3 in the NE-10,
while the Owls move to 11-2-2 and 8-2-2 in the league.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, SNHU would go down
a man 17 minutes into the second half when the Penmen were assessed
a red card. The game would be tied 1-1 at the 66:32 mark when
Southern New Hampshire received an Owl own goal.
Southern Connecticut had taken a 1-0 lead in
the 33rd minute when Victor Hernandez scored on a feed from Cedric
Panzu.
Esposito made seven saves for the Owls while
Jon
Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) turned aside one shot for
Southern New Hampshire. The hosts generated a 17-10 shot
advantage on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire plays its third of
four consecutive road games to close out the regular season Tuesday
when it travels to Northeast-10 leading and No. 3 nationally
Franklin Pierce University for a 7:00 contest.
