MANCHESTER, N.H. - Emily Rousseau totaled 19
points to lead Stonehill College to a 72-48 Northeast-10 women's
basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at the
SNHU Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks won their
third in a row to improve to 20-8 and 15-6 in the NE-10, while the
Penmen are now 12-16 and 8-13 in the league.
Rousseau was 9-12 from the floor
and also handed out four assists. Kristen McWhirter finished
with 15 points and six assists for the Skyhawks, who also got 14
points and nine rebounds from Kelsey Simonds.
Ashara Carrington
(Marblehead, Mass.) totaled 14 of her game-high 20 points for
Southern New Hampshire in the first half and also grabbed six
rebounds. With her 20 points, Carrington now has 1,035 career
points, moving her into a tie for 11th in program
history. Jenny McDade (Derry, N.H.) added 12
points and eight rebounds for the Penmen, who got six points apiece
from Andrea Lozeau (Pelham, N.H.) and
Sloane Sorrell (Berwick, Maine).
Carrington scored 10 of SNHU's
first 12 points as the Penmen built a 12-8 lead four minutes into
the game. Stonehill used a 13-4 run to take a 23-18 lead on a
layup by Rousseau at the 10:02 mark but the Penmen countered with a
7-2 spurt and tied the game 25-25 7:40 before intermission on a
McDade three. The Skyhawks closed the first half on a 10-3
run and a layup by Mcwhirter 19 seconds before halftime gave the
guests a 39-32 lead at the break.
The Penmen would get the lead down
to five, 42-37, with 15:23 to play on a Carrington layup, but the
Skyhawks scored the game's next six points to take a 48-37 lead
with 14:10 left on a Rousseau layup. Stonehill sealed the win
with a 13-1 run capped by a basket by Amanda Smith with 6:17 left
that gave the guests a 63-43 advantage.
Stonehill limited the Penmen to
just 5-29 (17.2%) shooting in the second half while it shot 52.5%
for the contest. Southern New Hampshire outrebounded the
Skyhawks 41-35.
Southern New Hampshire closes out
the regular season Wednesday night when it travels to Merrimack
College for a 5:30 contest.
