Kentish, Schippers Named to Northeast-10 All-Academic Team

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - Richard Kentish (Kingston, Jamaica) and Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.), who each recently wrapped up standout careers with the Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer program, were named to the Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer All-Academic Team, it was announced Thursday.

Kentish, a business major, has compiled a 3.36 grade point average. A back, Kentish was also named a Scholar All-American by the NSCAA.  On the field, Kentish was named a First Team All-American by both the NSCAA and Daktronics in 2009.  In addition, Kentish was the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year  and is a three-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection.  One of four players to start all 22 games for the Penmen, Kentish anchored a defense that recorded 11 shutouts and posted a 0.56 goals-against average, good for seventh nationally.  The Penmen recorded seven straight shutouts from September 5-September 27, the second longest string in program history, and allowed more than one goal just twice in 22 games.

Schippers, also a business major, has posted a 3.38 GPA, and was recently named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Region team.  He was a Third Team NSCAA All-American and a Daktronics Honorable Mention All-America.  Schippers, who garnered NE-10 First Team honors for the second straight season in 2009, led the Penmen in scoring with 12 goals and three assists despite playing in just 18 of 22 contests.  A two-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Schippers registered seven game-winning goals on the season.  He totaled two goals and an assist in wins over Saint Thomas Aquinas and Bentley and also scored twice in a victory over New Haven.  Schippers also tallied at least one goal in six of his final seven regular season contests.

The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team finished 14-4-4 overall and advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals for the first time since the 2002 season.  The Penmen captured their second straight Northeast-10 regular season title.  SNHU was ranked No. 8 in the final adidas/NSCAA Division II poll.
