MANCHESTER, N.H. – Joe Meo scored four times to lead
top-ranked C.W. Post to an 11-7 men's lacrosse victory over
Southern New Hampshire University at Larkin Field Sunday
afternoon. The Pioneers improved to 9-0 and extended their
win streak back to last season to 18 games, while the Penmen are
2-3 on the season.
Nick Coric and Eddie Plompen each
finished with a pair of goals for C.W. Post, which also got single
goals from Mike Cama, Matt Riccio and James Johnston. Doch
Hoch had a pair of assists.
Freshman Greg
Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with
four goals, while Terrence Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.)
finished with two goals and two assists. Keith
Merluzzo (Billerica, Mass.) had the other Penmen tally.
Cama won the opening faceoff and
scored 15 seconds in to give the guests a 1-0 lead. Meo would
make it 2-0 4:41 into the game, but Reynolds would tie the game
with goals with 4:25 left and 1:52 left in the first quarter.
Reynolds would score an unassisted goal with 10:05 left before
halftime to give the Penmen a 3-2 lead.
The Pioneers would take the lead
for good when Plompen and Johnston scored 1:46 apart, with
Johnston's goal with 4:13 making it 4-3. The Pioneers
would score the first three goals of the second half to go up 7-3
with 8:19 to go in the third on Plompen's second goal of the
game. The two teams would trade the game's final eight
goals, with the Penmen cutting the lead to three four times, but
could get no closer.
Dan Orlando went the distance in
net for C.W. Post and made six saves, while Southern New Hampshire
goalie Eric Gunst (Exeter, N.H.) made 16 stops as
the Pioneers outshot the Penmen 41-21.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
Northeast-10 play Wednesday night when it travels to Assumption
College for a 7:30 contest.
