WORCESTER, Mass. –
Greg Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) scored four times to lead
Southern New Hampshire University to a 12-10 Northeast-10
men's lacrosse win over Assumption College at Multi-Sport
Stadium Wednesday night. The Penmen improved to 3-3 overall
and 1-1 in the NE-10 with the win, while the Greyhounds are now 3-3
and 0-3 in the league.
Michael Slatton
(Billerica, Mass.) and Andrew Brown (Marshfield,
Mass.) each finished with two goals and an assist for the Penmen,
while Gary McKay (Billerica, Mass.) and
Terrence Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.) each added a goal
and an assist. Keith Merluzzo (Billerica,
Mass.) and Zak Semiao (North Reading, Mass.) had
the other SNHU tallies.
Tom Guido led Assumption with four
goals, while Alejandro Ruiz scored twice. Kevin Klaskin
handed out five assists.
Trailing 6-4 at halftime, Southern
New Hampshire scored the first three goals of the second half and a
McKay tally directly off a faceoff, SNHU's second goal in
five seconds, gave the Penmen a 7-6 lead 5:19 into the third
quarter. The Penmen held an 8-7 lead after three quarters.
Assumption would tie the game three
times in the fourth quarter, with a goal by Guido with 8:03 left
tying the contest 10-10. Brown would break the tie on an
assist from Slatton with 4:40 to play, and Reynolds would add an
insurance goal with 2:23 to go.
The hosts raced out to a 3-0 lead
after one quarter before the Penmen tied the game with the first
three goals of the second quarter, with Reynolds tying the game
4:41 before intermission. Assumption retook the lead six
seconds later on a Chris Noyes goal, but SNHU tied the game with
4:05 left on a Slatton score. The Greyhounds would score
twice in the final minute of the first half to take a 6-4 lead into
the break.
Eric Gunst
(Exeter, N.H.) made eight saves for Southern New Hampshire in goal
as the Greyhounds outshot the Penmen 41-32. Scott Vogel made
eight saves for Assumption.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Saturday when it hosts American International College in a
1:00 contest at Larkin Field.
