PLEASANTVILLE,
N.Y. – Pace University defeated visiting Southern
New Hampshire University 9-4 in a Northeast-10 men's lacrosse
contest Saturday afternoon. The Setters improved to 4-4 overall and
3-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 3-6 and 1-4 in the
conference.
James Hammel led Pace with three
goals on the day, and Thomas Earl added two goals. Nicholas
Pellerito notched a goal and three assists.
Greg Reynolds
(Scituate, Mass.) led the Penmen with two goals, while
Andrew Brown (Marshfield, Mass) and Alex
Whitney (North Hampton, N.H.) added a goal apiece.
Pace maintained a 3-1 lead after
two periods, but the Setters scored five times in the third to put
the game out of reach. Hammel scored his second goal of the day at
51 seconds into the period before Joe Arlotta and John Kolesar both
scored 46 seconds apart with just under eight minutes remaining in
the period to make it 6-1.
Reynolds scored twice in a 1:03
period before the end of the third to make it 8-3. The teams traded
goals in the fourth period after Brown and Hammel scored, although
the Penmen would get no closer.
Sean Kearney made 17 saves for
Pace, while Eric Gunst (Exeter, N.H.) made 13
saves for Southern New Hampshire. The Penmen were outshot 36-31 by
the Setters.
Southern New Hampshire travels to
Franklin Pierce on Tuesday for a 7:00 contest.
