SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Le Moyne College slugged its way past Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader Saturday, winning by scores of 11-8 and 9-8.  The Dolphins improved to 8-12 and 6-4 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are 7-13 and 4-6 in the league.

In the opener, Le Moyne jumped out to a 6-0 lead with four runs in the third and two more in the fourth.  The Penmen would get on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth.  A two-run double to right by Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) scored pinch runner Nikki Newell (Abington, Mass.) and Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.).

Southern New Hampshire would take a 7-6 lead with five runs in the top of the sixth.  The Penmen would get a pair of two-run home runs from Griffin and Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) as they collected three hits and also took advantage of two Le Moyne errors.  The Dolphins would answer with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame, banging out five hits, including a two-run double by Leah Ford.

Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.) would lead off the top of the seventh with a solo home run for the Penmen to make it 11-8, but the Penmen would get no closer.

Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, Mass.) collected three hits in the opener while Griffin had a pair of hits and four RBI.  Jen Garloff (Lebanon, Pa.) took the loss for SNHU, allowing four hits and five runs in two innings of relief.

In game two, SNHU scored three times in the top of the first and added four runs in the second to take a 7-2 lead.  Elena Anderson (Salem, Wis.) delivered a two-run double in the second, while Jenkins added a run-scoring single.  Le Moyne would replace starter Katelyn Fowler with Jenna Vanacore with one away in the second, and Vanacore allowed just three hits the rest of the way.

Le Moyne would take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Morgan Edmondson delivered a two-run single up the middle, and Barbara Shea followed that up with an infield single that scored Bailey Phillips.

Griffin worked the sixth in relief for the Penmen and took the loss.  Jenkins led the Penmen with three hits, while Anderson and Clausi finished with two hits apiece.

Southern New Hampshire travels to Saint Rose for a noon doubleheader Sunday.
