ALBANY, N.Y. – Southern New Hampshire University and The College of Saint Rose halved a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon.  The Penmen won game one by a 7-1 count, while the Golden Knights came back to blank SNHU 3-0 in the nightcap.  SNHU is 8-14 overall and 5-7 in the NE-10, while Saint Rose is 4-18 and 2-10 in the league.

Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) led off the opener with a home run for SNHU, her fifth of the season.  The Penmen would get one other run in the first when Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.) worked a bases-loaded walk to score Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.).

Saint Rose would plate its lone run in the second when a double by Lauren Ruggerio brought home Katie Ives.  The Penmen reclaimed a two-run lead in the third when Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, Mass.) reached on an error to lead off the frame and scored on a double down the left field line by Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, N.H.).

The Penmen would tack on four runs in the sixth, as they collected three hits and also took advantage of a Saint Rose error.  Stanley, Pessotti and Elena Anderson (Salem, Wis.) each had RBI singles, while Jenkins brought home a run on a sacrifice fly to right.

Stanley and Anderson finished with three hits apiece as the Penmen outhit the Golden Knights 9-6.  Jen Garloff (Lebanon, Pa.) went the distance in the circle for Southern New Hampshire, scattering six hits and fanning three for the win.

In game two, Saint Rose staked itself to a 1-0 lead in the first when Ashley Anderson hit a solo home run.  The Golden Knights would tack on two more runs in the sixth.  The Penmen would bring the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh following back-to-back singles by Jenkins and Pessotti, but the guests could not get on the board.

Jenkins had two of three SNHU hits in the nightcap as the freshman kept her team-high batting average at .370.  Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) took the loss for SNHU, surrendering eight hits while fanning seven.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 3:00 doubleheader.
