MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) went 5-for-6 at the plate with two home runs to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader sweep of Pace University by scores of 4-1 and 6-1 Sunday afternoon.  The Penmen, who have won four in a row and five of six, are now 12-14 and 9-7 in the NE-10, while the Setters are 17-19 and 5-11 in the league.

Stanley, who now has nine home runs on the season, a SNHU single-season school record, belted both of her round-trippers in game two.  The Penmen staked themselves to a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.) belted a two-run home run to right-center that also plated Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.).

Stanley led off the third with a solo shot down the left field line to give Southern New Hampshire a 3-0 lead.  The hosts would make it 4-0 with two outs when Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, Mass.) tripled and scored on a single up the middle by Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, N.H.).

In the fourth, Jessica Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) worked a two-out walk then scored when Stanley belted her second home run of the afternoon, again down the left field line.

Pace scored its lone run in the sixth when Larissa Porcelli doubled to center than scored on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Calcagnini.  The Setters would load the bases with one out in the seventh, but SNHU pitcher Jen Garloff (Lebanon, Pa.) got Nicole Schultheis looking and Porcelli to pop out to end the game.

Stanley was 4-4 in the nightcap as she also had singles in the first and sixth.  Amanda Dague led the Setters with two hits.

Garloff earned the win, scattering six hits in her complete-game effort.  She fanned four and did not allow a hit until Schultheis led off the fourth with an infield single.

In the opener, Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.) broke open a scoreless game with her solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.  The Penmen would tack on three runs in the fifth.  Cheney lead off the inning with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch.  Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) and Stanley scored when Elena Anderson (Salem, Wis.) doubled to the gap in left-center.

Pace grabbed its only run in the sixth when Kayla Nelson singled to lead off the inning and scored on an infield single by Porcelli.

Griffin earned the win in the circle for the Penmen, scattering five hits and striking out five with no walks.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Monday when it hosts Adelphi University in a 3:00 doubleheader.
