GAME ONE BOX SCORE     GAME TWO BOX SCORE

RINDGE, N.H. – Visiting Southern New Hampshire University swept a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader from Franklin Pierce University by scores of 9-5 and 5-1 Wednesday afternoon.  The Penmen, who have won eight out of their last 10, evened their overall record at 15-15 while improving to 12-8 in the NE-10.  The Ravens are now 13-20 and 8-12 in the league.

Senior third baseman Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.) homered in both ends of the twinbill for her 20th and 21st career home runs, tying Ashley Bernstein for the program record for career home runs.  Bernstein played for the Penmen from 2006-09.  Clausi's home run in game two was also her 100th career hit, making her the 10th player in program history to reach the 100-hit mark.

Fifth-year head coach Deb Robitaille won her 100th career game with the sweep.  The winningest coach in Penmen softball history, she owns a 100-96 career mark.

In the opener, the Penmen grabbed single runs in the first three innings but still trailed 5-3 after three.  In the first, Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) led off the game with a home run, while Clausi homered to lead off the second.  In the third, Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.) led off with a single and scored on a base hit to center by Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, N.H.).

Franklin Pierce scored twice in the first when Jessica Furtado belted a two-run homer  to center, while in the second, the Ravens would collect four hits while also taking advantage of a walk, a wild pitch and an error.

Southern New Hampshire rallied with six runs over the final three innings to pick up the win.  In the fifth, Jenkins led off by reaching on an error and scored on a single by Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.).  In the sixth, a three-run home run to  center by Elena Anderson (Salem, Wis.) plated Clausi and Nikki Newell (Abington, Mass.).

The Penmen tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh as Jessica Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) and Stanley worked back-to-back bases loaded walks to score Cheney and Clausi.

Cheney led the Penmen with three hits in the opener as SNHU outhit Franklin Pierce 13-8.  Stanley, Clausi and Newell all finished with two hits apiece.  Furtado and Rachel Baxter each had two hits for the Ravens.

Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) earned the win for SNHU, allowing eight hits and five runs in her complete game.  Griffin allowed just two hits over the final five innings and retired 14 of the final 16 Raven hitters.

In the nightcap, Vitagliano broke open a scoreless game when she led off the third with a solo home run.  Clausi's home run to left with two away in the fourth made it 2-0 before FPU grabbed its lone run in the bottom of the frame when a Furtado double scored Aimee Lamoureux.

SNHU would plate three runs in the fifth.  A single up the middle by Anderson brought Berardi home after she reached on an error.  A double down the right field line by Jenkins scored Stanley, while a sac fly by Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, Mass.) allowed Anderson to score from third.

Anderson, Cheney and Vitagliano each recorded two hits for the Penmen as they outhit Franklin Pierce 9-5.  Jen Garloff (Lebanon, Pa.) allowed just five hits in her complete-game victory, giving up just one run while fanning a career-high 10 and walking two.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a 1:00 twinbill.
