COMPLETE NCAA RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Junior D.J.
Lantz (New London, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire
University golf team is one of four individual competitors selected
to compete from the East Region at the NCAA Division II
Atlantic/East Super Regional. The regional will be held May
3-5 at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.
The Penmen narrowly missed qualifying for the regional as a team.
Lantz is in the midst of one of the top individual seasons by a
Penmen golfer since the program was reinstated prior to the 2000-01
academic year. In the nine tournaments Lantz has competed in,
he has recorded eight top-10 finishes, and in the ninth, he
finished 19th out of 194 competitors and second among
Division II competitors at the NEIGA Championship in October.
Included in that total are six top-3 finishes, including medalist
honors at the AIC Invitational held earlier this week.
A two-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Lantz currently has
posted a stroke average of 73.9 through 17 rounds. The
current SNHU record for a season is held by current SNHU coach Matt
Arvanitis, who posted an average round of 74.6 in 2002-03.
Last season, with the Penmen competing as a team, Lantz finished
tied for 37th among 106 competitors with a three-day
score of 239. Last year's regional was also held at The
Resort at Glade Springs.
Lantz is one of 32 individuals selected to compete at the four
Super Regional events, with the top four individuals not on a
qualifying team selected from each region. The top five teams
and top two individuals not with a qualifying team at each regional
will advance to the Division II Men's Golf Championship May
18-21 at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.
