SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 1 Le Moyne College
staked itself to a 9-1 lead before the half enroute to a 14-4
victory over the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse
team in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The
Dolphins remain undefeated, boasting a 12-0 overall record and a
9-0 conference record, while the Penmen fall to 4-9 overall and 2-7
within Northeast-10 play.
Keith Merluzzo (Billerica, Mass.) scored the
first two goals for the Penmen on the afternoon, scoring the first
from Alex Whitney (North Hampton, N.H.) and the
latter goal unassisted. Marc Novaco (Chelmsford,
Mass.) and Andrew Brown (Marshfield, Mass.)
recorded unassisted tallies late in the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins, scoring six of their 14 goals with the man
advantage, were led by Jack Venditti, who scored three man-up goals
for Le Moyne. Nick DiSarro, Taylor Brooks, and Sean Connors notched
two goals for the Dolphins, while Jake Harmatuk accumulated two
assists and a goal.
The goaltending tandem of Matt Krupka and Jeff Vetter combined
to make four saves on the afternoon for the Dolphins, while Penmen
goaltender Eric Gunst (Exeter, N.H.) drew the
loss, allowing all 14 goals while also turning aside 15 Le Moyne
shots on goal. Netminder Brendan O'Brien
(Hopkinton, Mass.) played the last 7:42, holding the Dolphins
scoreless for the remainder of the tilt.
Southern New Hampshire University closes out the remainder
of the regular season on May 1 as they travel to play Saint
Michael's in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
