WORCESTER, Mass.
– Assumption College blanked Southern New Hampshire
University in both ends of a Northeast-10 doubleheader Saturday
afternoon, taking the first game 3-0 before posting a 10-0 win in
game two. The Greyhounds improved to 19-15 and 13-9 in the
NE-10, while the Penmen are now 15-17 and 12-10 in the league.
Assumption plated single runs in
the third, fourth and fifth innings in game one. In the
opener, Kara Lyons led off the third with a walk and scored on a
single by Lauren Medeiros. In the fourth, Amy Gordon led off
the frame with a home run, while an Ashley Bilodeau single plated
Medeiros in the fifth.
Assumption starter Jennifer Lowrey
went the distance, surrendering just one hit, a first-inning single
to Elena Anderson (Salem, Wis.) and fanning
nine. Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine)
took the loss, scattering six hits and giving up three runs.
Medeiros was 3-3 in the opener for Assumption.
In the nightcap, Assumption scored
twice in the first then scored seven times in the second to take a
9-0 lead. The Greyhounds collected five hits and also took
advantage of three walks and a pair of wild pitches.
Erin Murphy led Assumption with two
hits and three runs driven in, while Meghan DiVitto and Medeiros
each drove in two runs. Lowrey again allowed just one hit, a
second inning single by Melissa Vitagliano
(Bedford, N.H.) and fanned five. Jen Garloff
(Lebanon, Pa.) worked the first 1.1 innings for SNHU and took the
loss.
Southern New Hampshire travels to
American International for a noon doubleheader Sunday.
