GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University and American International College split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Groff Field.  The Yellow Jackets posted a 5-4 walkoff win in game one before the Penmen came back for a 4-1 win in the nightcap.  SNHU is 16-18 overall and 13-11 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets are 22-22 and 15-11 in league play.

In game two, Southern New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead in the second when Melissa Vitagliano (Bedford, N.H.) homered to left to lead off the inning.  Elena Anderson (Salem, Wis.) made it 2-0 in the third with her solo blast to left, while the Penmen would tack on two runs in the fourth when a two-run double to right by Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) plated Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.) and Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine).

AIC broke up SNHU's shutout bid in the bottom of the seventh when Michelle Franey led off the inning with a single and scored with two outs on a single by Ashleigh St. Peter.

Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.) led SNHU with a pair of hits in the nightcap as the Penmen outhit the Yellow Jackets 7-5.  Jen Garloff (Lebanon, Pa.) earned the complete-game victory for Southern New Hampshire, allowing five hits and registering three strikeouts.

In the opener, the guests took a 1-0 lead in the first when Anderson tripled with one out and scored on a single to left by Jenkins.  AIC grabbed two runs in the bottom of the frame when Stephanie Belanger belted a two-run home run to left-center.  The Yellow Jackets scored two more times in the second to take a 4-1 lead.

Southern New Hampshire tied the game with three runs in the fourth.  Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, Mass.) led off the inning with a home run, then with two away, Stanley belted a two-run shot to left, her 11th of the year.  Nicole Newell (Abington, Mass.), pinch-running for Griffin, also scored.

AIC scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.  Laura Rousseau singled to break up a stretch in which SNHU starter Griffin retired 16 of 17 to lead off the inning, and moved into scoring position on a sac bunt by Becky Dion.  A St. Peter single moved Rousseau to third, and Katie Elie's infield single would plate Rousseay for the win.

Jenkins went 3-3 in the opener as SNHU outhit AIC 9-7, while Anderson also had a pair of hits.  Rousseau led the Yellow Jackets with two hits.

Kristen Dolan scattered nine hits to earn the win for American International, fanning six, while Griffin fanned five in her 6.1 innings of work and took the loss.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Saint Michael's for a 3:00 doubleheader.
